Casting

Cast
This is Dan, we chose him to play one of the criminals, we chose him because we think he has a mysterious look about him and as he it quite tall we could adapt him to most characters and he's a guy we can trust to be there for filming

This is Matt, we chose him to play the agent/hero in the film, we chose Matt because not only is he reliable but he has that typical look with his hair and his muscular shape.

This is Alex, we chose him because he's done some previous acting and was kindly willing to help out with our coursework.

what I have learnt from research.

I have learnt from my research that the public would like the laws of opposition by having one good character against a bad character, I thought this would good to add into our opening sequence because it can creative a baseline to build from to make an actually story.

The public all so like a wide use of cinematography, sound and mise en scene; I found out that if there is more camera movement and quick camera change, we have thought it would be good to use a different number of camera shots from; close up, mid shot, long shot, over shoulder and a point of view shot. these shots all give a different perspective and maybe the different reason and meaning they portray.

we are going to use both non dieagetic and dieagetic sound because we can use non dieagetic with the "PING" from the elevator and dieagetic sound from the car in the car park.

The mise en scene is always important because every item in the shot may have a purpose to be in the shot eg with our CCTV camera in the elevator can be later on in the film. the car is all so an important prop as it is a way of the character to get around and explains how they get from A to B.

Planning opening secuence

Planning
Ideas

storyline

The superhero walks into a lift in a suit with jacket over shoulder, camera shows the lift numbers on ground floor, the camera then cuts to a car driving to through a car park, the camera is then an over the shoulder 'cctv in corner' shot if man in lift, it then cuts to the car parking. then a close up of man in lift putting gloves on and another shot of the numbers of the lift, then cuts to men putting balaclavas on then another shot of man in lift and then cuts to men getting out of car, when the men walk toward the door the lift numbers increase then at the end you hear the beep of the lift and the title of the film 'caught out'.

All parallel action to create suspense,
Lift numbers is a proretic code creating tension.
enigma code creates questions.

health and safety

Potential danger
Potential outcomes
Actions to avoid potentials outcomes
Tripping over electrical wirers
An injury could occur by falling over
Can stick the wirers down with duck tape and place sign to make people aware. Appoint someone to make sure that all of the above has been done.
Could get run over by a vehicle
You may die or other injury could happen
Give notice to people so they know what happen and get people to wear. Appoint someone tell inform the crew and cast that there is a car and to get some off the road.
Having an electrical shock when setting up camera
May have a temporary muscle spasm or heart failure.
To me extra careful when placing fingers and always know what you’re doing and ask if you become stuck. Appoint someone to be in charge of all the electrical equipment.
May get stuck in the lift
Starvation or panicked attack
Hope not that the lift gets stuck.
Dropping camera
Camera may break. Glass may break and you could cut yourself on the shards of glass.
Try not to drop the camera over all. If you do drop the camera and the glass break.
Weather conditions
As we are filming in the winter, the weather condition may be dangerous; ice maybe on the roads, this can be dangerous when walking and driving.

Place grit on icy patch. Appoint someone to be in charge of gritting all of the patches.
Tripping over the tripod
Tripping may cause falling over and hitting your head and causing head injury
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Fumes from being in the car park
The fumes may prevent an assumer attack if anyone has assumer
Can where dust masks to prevent fumes to be inhaled.

how we our going to approach our target audience.

There are a number of way to approach our target audience;
we can use social networking site, such as facebook, twitter. etc.. we can also go face to face by showing a clip on an ipad then ask them some question on what they through about the clip.

I would ask the following question;

  • what did you think of the clip?
  • what makes you want the rest of the film?
  • which character do you like the most and why?

I can also watch the response as one of the public as they watch the clip and judge the mood and note their response. I will also be taking a note of what happening in the scene this can help us to know what we need in our opening sequence so we can get more people to watch our film.

research of your target audience

  • we aim for male audience that is shy, likes to keep with to himself, doesn't have many friends and the time when he feel safe is when he is in the make believe world of super hero's. he would like the world to become the world  that reads.  he enjoys to read comic's and watch DC films. i can see the priorities of this male is doing all of his work first then dives into the make believe life of super hero's.
  • the target age that we aim for 15-25 with the life style of coming home after a day at school/college and uni not having much to do after doing all there work so they will just want to relax and watch other people lives.

superman returns coursework summary

the titles in the opening sequence of batman are in a bold  white and also placed in the middle of the page. the reason why the titles our in bold to give you information that this is the film and show important. the tiles are white because the background is black so it makes stand out more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ao3wnpXEco in the opening sequence a sound motif has been use to build up tension. non-diegetic sound has also been use because their is no action to make an actually sound.

There are no character use in the opening sequence.

the most dominate of mise en scene is the lighting as you have a black back ground with little burst of lights. the setting of the opening scene is clouds.

the use of proairetic code were used in the sound of motif as the music builds up tension. The hermeneutic code has also been used by the opening scene gets the audience guess to whats going to happen nexts.

you know the genre is action/super hero by the way the mise en scene has been use and also the way the music combines with together.

opening sequence of batman begins

In the opening sequence you are presented with a black canvas that has burst of light in the background, this connotes that against the dark and empty soul of the blackness that there is little burst of hope in life, the light effect that was a naturalistic as the burst of light can be represent as lightening and pitch blackness of clouds in the night.
The theory of binary opposites of lonely vs being fulfilled in life. As the blackness represent emptiness, that nothing is there left to hold on too and the burst of light can be shown as life is there something to hold on too. This adds tension as you can never trust with what’s happen, it indices the audience to find out more.

The credits have started by this point. In the first credit a faded in and stays in focus for a couple of seconds then fades out, this connotes that when you first think you have something that it can go in a blink of an eye. All of the credits have all been insert then a cutaway, the main point that i would have to pick that the where the credits have been placed, i think the editing put this for a purpose because the rule of thirds has been you’d to please the eye.

Expansion of time has also been used for every credit. As the credit is insert the time expansion is speeded up and when the fade out is used the expansion of time has slowed back down to normal pas. I think the semantic code could have been used because the way the credits have be protrude as some lurking in the shades.

The sound track that goes with the film starts of slowly and eerie and as the first credit starts to fade in the music starts to become louder and the pas of music is at a faster repetition. This builds tension and it gives the audience a bit of excitement.  Also synchronous sound has been use to go along with the natural lightening, as the burst of lights the connation of power as the music becomes louder and burst of lights coming thought the darkness.

The only cinematography that was used was an establishing shot to give an expression on what the film going to be about, sets up the narrative to the film. Then it moves into a tracking shot to give the expression that you are been taking into the film and you are a part of the film too as you see it though your own eyes.

I believe that the enigma code was used in the title sequence at the ever end you have a zoom of fly bats coming toward the camera . The connotation is that it adds mystery to the audience and makes the guessing in till the final scenes when all is revealed and all loose end have been tide off.  Over all this a good opening sequence because it make the audience wanting to find out more.

superman returns coursework

In the opening scene of superman returns you are presented with a fire ball that been zoom into such a degree a wide shot has been used and moves into a reverse zoom as if the fire ball was just falling within itself then explosion of a new blue fire ball that has expended to out of the shot so that you are enticed around this new fire ball. This connotes that the red fire ball could of getting rid of the old and in with the new and how time change. Editing was used for the next’s scene, as the blue fire was use to represent new life then a graphic match was use to make the centre of the fire ball to look like a planet.
An establishing was use to set the scene and tell you the audience where we are.  An extreme zoon was used to pin point that meteorites have some kind of importance, as the meteorites went pass we had a use of a sting, this makes the audience a sense of being there and that it’s actually happening around them. By this point the credits start along with the sound tract, the credit have been given a effect of the letter being stretched because the expansion of time has been sped up but the credit have stayed the same too live the stretched look. The sound track is tensing at first to give the audience a bit of uncertainty as what’s going to happen next’s, slowly as it goes on, building momentum as the camera is using tracking shot, the faster the tracking becomes the music becomes louder and more uplifting.
Another graphic match has been used again of an effect of fire has been use again as the zoom and then the reverse zoom was use you had the image of symbol of the superman badge, this connotes  sets up the film as you now know what this film is about and who it is about.
The way in which the title sequences is being shown as if it’s been seen though someone’s eyes and that we are going on the journey with them. This feeling connotes that it’s us going through the flying experience as we by pass planets and meteorites.
The semantic code was used at the beginning of title sequences when you are given a fire ball at the beginning what is seems but it actually becomes a planet at the end, this would have been done to give a back ground story to something or someone because we now know where it started and where it’s going to finish at earth.
The theory of binary opposites is there as you have the super-natural against the natural, from being in space in the super-natural then to stop at earth for the natural, the connote set up the audience to be unsure on what’s going to happen when both of the naturals meet.
It makes the audience wanting to find out more.

Evaluation

When filming the continuity scene face some problems from the beginning right through to the too the editing.
one of the first problems that we faced was finding the right location that included a door to walk through with match on action to be counted for, we started out and used a gate for the match on action but we thought this wouldn't be be good enough for a back shot and front shot so our second idea was to go into the canteen where we had the option too use a door for out match on action  and a place to our acting.
After we had done our filming inside we know had to film our cutaway, I didn't feel that there wasn't any problems when filming this.

We our now going in to our editing stage of our filming, the biggest problem was not giving enough to edit with. an example of this was when filming match on action, we should of walked straight through to make the cut smoother but the mistake we made was stopping when we got to the door, hold, wait for the camera to get front view and then start again. now when we were waiting something could of change, from the door being at a different angle or jack or I could of moved so the cut would be jumpy, hopefully we have given ourself enough to work with and made our first continuity  film.

health and safety

RISK
  • Tripping when walking up the stairs. how to prevent this, to make sure that you lifted your foot high enough and place carefully.
  • making sure that there isn't any sharp objects that could hurt or break the skin. how to prevent this, you can walk around the whole set to cover or take out the sharp objects.
  • trapping your fingers in the door. how to prevent this, to be aware of your surroundings and place your finger carefully and remember to let go.
  • make sure that they aren't any leads to trip over. how the prevent this by tapping down the leads with bright colours so it clearly to see.
  •  in case of a fire, there will be meeting point out the front recipient.
  • In case of a drink spillage, you must report it to one of the care takers and they will clear it up and place a wet sign.

Continuity Editing

Continuity editing is when the cuts are invisible to the naked eye. This is done to interacted with the audience and make it more life like. you also can't see any jumps between each scene

The way this is done by the 180 degree rule, the 180 degree rule is where the camera can't go over of a 180 degrees. The reason why do this is so the eye lie match's and the background is the same. if you were to go over the 180 degree line it would look like the character are in the same seat.

Also the camera can use match on action. Match on action is making sure that the actor is making the same pose twice so cut looks smoother. an example of this would be when a character is walking through a door. this shot would be filmed twice, from the front and from the back. The character would also be made to walk with the same leg and have the bag on the same arm.
